80+ Pictures Of Looks Around Pink and Purple

Salmon, cerise, blush, rose, lavender, mauve, and ruby are all shades of pink.  Muted shades of pink have always been associated with historical homes, and high end estates.  The soft shade works beautifully with antiques that have rich woods, and shades of pink often bring out the best in any painting.  Pink saw popularity in the rococo movement, when blues, yellows and pinks worked hand in hand.  Pink is being used more than ever.

Here are a couple ways to pull off this muted shade in your teen daughters bedroom.......

Give The Lighting A Second Look

Your daughter like any teen spends a lot of time in her room.  Harsh, fluorescent lighting doesn't make for a very pleasant atmosphere, so look for softer or natural lights to brighten up her room.  Keep lighter drapes on the windows to let the light shine in, and equip her room with lamps, to shine light into her room in the evenings.

Determine Bold, Or Soft As Your Theme

Work with your daughter to determine the style she is after.  She might like the edgy bold pinks, or she may prefer the classic cottage soft pedal pinks.  Ask her which direction she would like to head into, and make furniture choices with her. The vibrancy of the color choice will determine the furnishings.  If she wants more of a bolder color on the walls, working with wood furniture will contrast any brighter shade quite nicely.  Lighter shades can be paired up with lighter furniture, with one really good element of contrast.  Work reds with pinks for play on play color.

Start Fresh With New Pieces....

Give her a new look.  It doesn't have to cost you fortune with vintage furniture.  Work with your daughter on a project that she can personally be involved in.  Keep your eyes out for vintage headboards that can be upholstered.  An accent chair that has good bones and perhaps needs to have a new coat of paint, or refinishing.

Pinks look wonderful with modern styled furniture.  Decide how much room you have to work with, and what pieces would work in her room.  Look for pieces that can be versatile.  A wall shelf such as this one, can be arranged into a desk, and a tv stand, with a place to house her books, and accessories.  Go for more room and less clutter to really draw attention to her new interests, and get rid of the little girl stuff.

Mirrors Make Smaller Rooms Appear Larger

Mirrors are an excellent way to add more space into a room, as they reflect the light and they can make a space look much bigger than it actually is. Mirrors can be used to illuminate a dark space, open up a cramped room, or add the feeling of space in an oddly-shaped room such as an "L" shaped room.

Balance The Pink With Pattern

It seems like the most successful pink rooms often incorporate several patterns.  Dressing up a bed can be a way of bringing in lots of interest.  In this picture, a simple brass bed is made into a grand canopy, just by using ceiling hooks and rods.   Use the same pattern on chairs, or benches to pull together the look.

Add Color, Without Spending A Ton

Thrift stores often sell the nicest picture frames.  Turn a vintage frame into a painted tack board.  Some of the prettiest tack boards are covered with fabric and re-framed.  Search on amazon for prints that would work with her general color scheme and taste.   Hang 3 full length door mirrors on the wall horizontally, or turn them into magnetic boards with paint.  This will also allow her to keep her school notes, phone numbers in one place.

Find simple images that you can blow up and frame.  Here are some pretty letters that can be blown up.  Find black and white prints that you can use an overhead projector and transfer.  Or, alter the picture in your computer, and take it to Office Depot, or Staples and have them blow up and print the image for you.  I did this with a couple prints myself.  The trick is, the larger the picture, (original image), the less distorted the image will be with larger prints.  You can make your own art, with very little money.

Eliminate the Clutter

Go through her room with her, and get rid of the things she has out grown.  If she has gifts, or collected items that no longer fit with her age, consider listing them on craigslist for a new start for a younger girl.  Once she has de-cluttered her room, you both will be able to focus on more important things, new furnishings and a brand new look going forward.

Introduce Collections

Stones can be a really pretty collection to start, especially with the variety of colors.  Consider starting her a collection which she can display in picture frames.  Opt for stones like rose quartz, watermelon tourmaline, or rhodocrosite. Place stones like clear quartz, citrine, yellow calcite, jade, or tiger eye around her desk, or consider framing them in shadow boxes.

Another inexpensive idea- Go to the dollar tree, and use regular frames without the glass. Take the glass out and apply a thicker piece of cardboard in the back of the frame, and consider using felt in a bright shade of purple or pink.  Display 20 or so frames (costing only a $1 at dollar stores) and make her own display collection.  Check out these lovely prints from Sweet Clover.   A second set which have the same theme here.
